Home Town Map-3rd Grade

As artists we constantly observe, or look closely at the world around us.
In this lesson you can create a map of the route take from home to school. As you create a map, you will learn about distance, signs, symbols, landmarks and other details that make up your daily journey.

  • On the back of your paper, make a list of the things you see on the way to school, beginning with your home.  Ex: homes, farm, stop signs post office, stores, gas station, park, homes, school.
  • Begin sketching the placement of the streets, buildings, and landmarks on your map in pencil. Be sure to label the streets and names of buildings, parks and businesses. Also include signs on your map. You may choose to include a Map Key.
  • This project can be done in drawing, painting (day2) collage or sculpture.

  • Art Around Us - 2nd Grade

Where can you see art at?

Museums, restaurants, homes, street fair, graffiti

    Why do people display art?

To decorate or make things beautiful.
To share with others things or ideas that are important to us. (What we like)
    To start a conversation
To keep a memory.  To remind us of a person, place or thing.

Why are we having an art show?

    People are coming together
A chance to see neighbors and friends
    To be entertained
Art gives us something to look at and talk about.  Art is a conversation starter.
