Places and Spaces - What Places are Important to Us? My Happy Place - 2nd

 My Happy Place

Imagination- the ability to imagine things that are not real : the ability to form a picture in your mind of something that you have not seen or experienced.

Think of a time and place where you felt really happy.  Did you feel calm? Cozy? Safe? Quiet? Did you know you can visit this place whenever you like?

You can if you practice engaging your senses to make this place vivid in your mind. You could even create a new daydream place to go when you feel worried or upset. What would it be?

(ex: grandpa's farm, the creek, my room, a place with only cats and bean bag chairs, a place in my imagination with my favorite things)

Wherever and whatever your Happy Place may be, the goal of this activity is to give you the power to bring a smile to your face and peace to your heart, whenever you visit this happy place.

What did you like about it? Remember some of the details. What could you see and hear? What could you smell in this place? When you close your eyes and imagine these things, you can bring that feeling you had of calm from that place.

Create your own happy place you can hold in your heart and visit whenever you want.

Imagine it...

Create it in the drawing, collage, painting or sculpture studio

Transformations - Steps of Change Collage Lesson - 3rd Grade

 Transformations

Transformation means to change the form, look or shape of something

How do things transform?

What steps or changes do they go through?

This  chicken goes through Biological Metamorphosis. Biological metamorphosis is a dramatic change that some animals and insects go through during their life cycles. The change is dramatic, and the baby stage looks very different from the adult stage.

Remember from last lesson that Visual metamorphosis is the term we use to indicate shape-shifting in art. It allows the artist to transform the look of one object into a different object with a similar shape. If something changes from one form to a completely different form, we can call that change Metamorphosis.

Art Show - Portfolio Day First Grade 1st

Artist Portfolio- a collection of an artist's best work and, is intended to showcase their style and methods of work.

A portfolio shows what you have learned this first quarter. The folder we are making today is a way for you  to present your best work and their reflections on that work. After we select frame, and photograph your art for the art show on concert night, we will send all your art pieces home in this portfolio.

Today you can finish up any art from this series of 3 projects, and Write your name on your portfolio and decorate it using drawing  supplies.

At the end of class today we will get back all of our art and put it in our portfolio for safe keeping.

A portfolio is special, treat it that way by taking your time making it.

Art Show- Let's Talk about the Hall Hallway discussion - 3rd

 What is an Art Show?

What is an art show?

What things do artists do to get ready for an art show?

They make art, select which artwork to show, find a location, they promote their show (tell people about it) and they talk about their art.

Curating is the act of selecting, organizing, and presenting objects for display.

  • Select a piece of art that you have worked on 2 or more art classes.

  • You work should be a piece that you are proud of creating.

  • Your art should be complete and be your personal best work.

We will organize our work by class, with each student having a special place to display their work (by their name).

We will prepare it for display in a later lesson on framing and our artist statement.

Places and Spaces- Near and Far- 2nd

Perspective- concept that objects are drawn smaller when they are farther away and larger when they are closer to the viewer.

Artists create art about places they visit, live, work, and play. Sometimes artists choose to make their drawings and paintings look like a 3 dimensional space even though they are on a flat 2d surface like paper or canvas.

Near and Far

Draw the closest thing first, and draw LARGE
What is the largest thing in this picture?

Draw things that are far smaller and higher up on the page.
What appears far away in  picture?

Transformation: Metamorphosis - 3rd Grade

 Third Grade Transformation: Metamorphosis

From our lesson last week we learned that transformation means to change the form, look or shape of something

In art, visual metamorphosis is the term we use to indicate shape-shifting in art. It allows the artist to transform the look of one object into a different object with a similar shape. If something changes from one form to a completely different form, we can call that change Metamorphosis.

Today, we are going to draw an object, and transform it into an animal, or vice versa.
You can create a series of drawings to show the transformation or metamorphosis of the object into an animal.
