Spaces and Places - Maps-Second Grade

Maps

When we talk about spaces and places, communities, homes, happy places and towns, we can't forget to talk about maps.

Maps show us the directions to get from one place to another.

Maps give us information about a place a we want to know more about.

Maps can be a beautiful work of art.

This book will show us all the possibilities of things you could make a map about.

You can create a map of your town

A map inspired by your favorite book, game or movie.

A map about yourself.

Make a map of your heart
Fill it with things that are near and dear to you

My Happy Place-Second Grade

My Happy Place

Think of a time and place where you felt really happy.  Did you feel calm? Cozy? Safe? Quiet? Did you know you can visit this place whenever you like?

You can if you practice engaging your senses to make this place vivid in your mind. You could even create a new daydream place to go when you feel worried or upset. What would it be?

(ex: grandpa's farm, the creek, my room, a place with only cats and bean bag chairs, a place in my imagination with my favorite things)

Wherever and whatever your Happy Place may be, the goal of this activity is to give you the power to bring a smile to your face and peace to your heart, whenever you visit this happy place.

What did you like about it? Remember some of the details. What could you see and hear? What could you smell in this place? When you close your eyes and imagine these things, you can bring that feeling you had of calm from that place.

Create your own happy place you can hold in your heart and visit whenever you want.

Imagine it...

Create it in the drawing, collage, painting or sculpture studio
