Third Grade Transformation: Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

From our lesson last week we learned that transformation means "change."

Today, we are transforming an object or a thing into an animal. If something changes from one form to a completely different form, we can call that change Metamorphosis.
You can create a series of drawings to show the transformation or metamorphosis of the object into an animal.

Second Grade Places: Near and Far- creating depth

Artists create art about places they visit, live, work, and play. Sometimes artists choose to make their drawings and paintings look like a 3 dimensional space even though they are on a flat 2d surface like paper or canvas.

Near and Far

Draw the closest thing first, and draw LARGE
What is the largest thing in this picture?

Draw things that are far smaller and higher up on the page.

Second Grade: Places and Mood

Artists make art about the places they live, work, visit and dream about visiting.

A place can be an area, a building, or a city or town.
(city, desert, beach, farm, home, neighborhood, lake) do we want to specify outdoor places?

If you could walk into this painting where would you be standing?
How does the painting feel on the blue side?
How does the mood or feeling change on the side with the red, orange and yellow?
What time of day does each side remind you of? Is there a time of day when you may see both?

                                                                            Draw a place,

A. Interpret

Interpret art by categorizing subject matter and identifying the characteristic s of form

We can learn to see shapes in everything around us.
Knowing the names of shapes can help us describe and understand a work of art.

What shapes did you use to create your artwork today?

Draw Big!

What shapes do you see?
what would you draw first?

Transformations 3rd Grade

Transformations happen all around us.

Sometimes we even transform!

It is our job as artists to notice the transformations and record them through our art making.

Think of a tree. A tree goes through many transformations in one year. How can you show those changes in an artwork?

What if YOU transformed yourself into a superhero?
What would your name be? Would you have any superpowers?

What about a transformation we experience every 24 hours? The changes from night time to day time!

Can you think of anymore transformations that happen in the world around us?
How could you show the changes in an artwork?

Choice Art/Let's Talk About the Hall

What is an Art Show?

What is an art show?

What things do artists do to get ready for an art show?

They make art, select which artwork to show, find a location, they promote their show (tell people about it) and they talk about their art.

Curating is the act of selecting, organizing, and presenting objects for display.

  • Select a piece of art that you have worked on 2 or more art classes.

  • You work should be a piece that you are proud of creating.

  • Your art should be complete and be your personal best work.

We will organize our work by class, with each student having a special place to display their work (by their name).

We will prepare it for display in a later lesson on framing and our artist statement.
