How do we tell stories?
What are some favorite stories from when you were little?
Did someone read to you from a book?
Did someone tell you the story from memory?
Is your favorite story make believe, or from real life like a family story?
Do you ever tell stories to your friends about things that have happened to you?
Stories don't have to come from books, they can also come from movies.
Can you use your artwork to tell a story?
Today we are going to look at two artworks by the children's book illustrator, Melissa Iwai.
Unit 3 - Who are we, and what do we care about?
Who are we, and what do we care about?
Name some people who are important to you.
Today we are going to look at some artwork that shows people alone and people who are together.
Artists pay attention to how people show that they care about each other.
The also pay attention to the places that are important to people.
Can you show special people and places in your life in your artwork?
What do you see in this painting?
What is happening in this picture?
Do you think the people are enjoying themselves?
What makes you think that?
What do you notice that makes this picture interesting?
Raise your hand when I name a person or a place you could show in an artwork.
