What do you find beautiful in the world?
What colors do you see in this picture?
What lines and shapes do you see in this pictures?
Andre Derain - The Trees
- Artists share what they think is beautiful in their art.
OUR EXPERIENCES: We see beauty when we look closely at nature or when we view a landscape a distance. We see beauty in the parts of the world that are built by humans such as bridges and buildings
We also can "see" or feel beauty in our actions of kindness, love and respect.
ARTISTS HELP US FIND AND SHOW BEAUTY IN OUR WORLD.
On an index card, or small piece of paper, take 5 minutes to write about or draw something you find beautiful.
Maps
When we talk about spaces and places, communities, homes, happy places and towns, we can't forget to talk about maps.
Maps show us the directions to get from one place to another.
Maps give us information about a place a we want to know more about.
Maps can be a beautiful work of art.
This book will show us all the possibilities of things you could make a map about.
You can create a map of your town
Introduction to Choice Art
It's time to put all the studio skills we llearned to work!
Today we will review the studio procedures, choose a stick for a studio, think of an idea, and make some art!
Welcome to CHOICE ART!!!
Community- a group of people living or working together in the same area. People in communities might go to the same schools, shop in the same stores and do the same things. They also help each other and solve problems together.
Today, you may choose to create individual squares of sculpture that feature an aspect of your community. Those of you who create a sculpture may enjoy putting your neighborhood squares together to create a model of your community
Some examples are homes, schools (Festus), shops (main street), police and fire station, a church, produce stand, parks, water tower, creeks, playgrounds, restaurants and more!
My Happy Place
Imagination- the ability to imagine things that are not real : the ability to form a picture in your mind of something that you have not seen or experienced.
Think of a time and place where you felt really happy. Did you feel calm? Cozy? Safe? Quiet? Did you know you can visit this place whenever you like?
You can if you practice engaging your senses to make this place vivid in your mind. You could even create a new daydream place to go when you feel worried or upset. What would it be?
(ex: grandpa's farm, the creek, my room, a place with only cats and bean bag chairs, a place in my imagination with my favorite things)
What did you like about it? Remember some of the details. What could you see and hear? What could you smell in this place? When you close your eyes and imagine these things, you can bring that feeling you had of calm from that place.
Create your own happy place you can hold in your heart and visit whenever you want.
Imagine it...
Create it in the drawing, collage, painting or sculpture studio
I CAN prepare my art so I can put it on display.
Performing/ Presenting/ Producing | 5. Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation. | A. Analyze | Ask and answer questions such as where, when, why and how artwork should be prepared for presentation or preservation. |
What is the importance of a frame for art?
(EU: Artists, curators and others consider a variety of factors and methods including evolving technologies when preparing and refining artwork for display and or when deciding if and how to preserve and protect it. EQ(s): What methods and processes are considered when preparing artwork for presentation or preservation? How does refining artwork affect its meaning to the viewer? What criteria are considered when selecting work for presentation, a portfolio, or a collection? )
What steps or changes do they go through?
This chicken goes through Biological Metamorphosis. Biological metamorphosis is a dramatic change that some animals and insects go through during their life cycles. The change is dramatic, and the baby stage looks very different from the adult stage.
Remember from last lesson that Visual metamorphosis is the term we use to indicate shape-shifting in art. It allows the artist to transform the look of one object into a different object with a similar shape. If something changes from one form to a completely different form, we can call that change Metamorphosis.
Artist Portfolio- a collection of an artist's best work and, is intended to showcase their style and methods of work.
A portfolio shows what you have learned this first quarter. The folder we are making today is a way for you to present your best work and their reflections on that work. After we select frame, and photograph your art for the art show on concert night, we will send all your art pieces home in this portfolio.
Today you can finish up any art from this series of 3 projects, and Write your name on your portfolio and decorate it using drawing supplies.
At the end of class today we will get back all of our art and put it in our portfolio for safe keeping.
A portfolio is special, treat it that way by taking your time making it.
Step 1 Folding
Step 2 Writing your name
Step 3 Decorating
Step 4 Clean up and Pass out Art
What is an Art Show?
What is an art show?
What things do artists do to get ready for an art show?
They make art, select which artwork to show, find a location, they promote their show (tell people about it) and they talk about their art.
Curating is the act of selecting, organizing, and presenting objects for display.
- Select a piece of art that you have worked on 2 or more art classes.
- You work should be a piece that you are proud of creating.
- Your art should be complete and be your personal best work.
We will organize our work by class, with each student having a special place to display their work (by their name). We will prepare it for display in a later lesson on framing and our artist statement.
Perspective- concept that objects are drawn smaller when they are farther away and larger when they are closer to the viewer.
Artists create art about places they visit, live, work, and play. Sometimes artists choose to make their drawings and paintings look like a 3 dimensional space even though they are on a flat 2d surface like paper or canvas.
Third Grade Transformation: Metamorphosis
Characteristics- a special quality or appearance that makes an individual or group different from others.
Think about some characteristics that you have. What words describe you?
Talkative? Shy? Funny? Strong? Loyal?
Could the words that describe you, also describe an animal?
What would that animal be?
Talkative?
Shy?
Funny?
Strong?
Loyal?
Powerpoint If I were an animal
Is there an animal you have a CONNECTION with?
If you were an animal, what would you want to be?
Why do you want to be this animal?
Could you use your animal match as inspiration for artwork?
Transformations happen all around us!
Transformation means to change the form, look or shape of something
It is our job as artists to notice the transformations and record them through our art making.
Think of a tree. A tree goes through many transformations in one year. How can you show those changes in an artwork?
Portrait- a picture of a person usually showing the face
Today we will focus on creating a frame for our portraits that can add to the information we can share about who we are.
