Sculptures Have a Skin 2nd grade

Sculptures have a Skin

In our sculpture studio we make sure our sculptures are finished by adding a "skin."

What is a skin? It is something that covers the surface of your sculpture, just like our skin covers our body.
You may want to add color by using paint, colored construction paper, makers, crayons or oil pastels, foil or fabric.

You may want to use embellishments such as pom poms or beads once your sculpture is dry.

World Art - Ndeble House Sculpture - 2nd

Living in South Africa, the Ndebele Nation is an ethnic group that is known for its incredible artistic talent. Using their homes as canvas and studios, the women of this ethnic group create beautiful works of art that have been passed down from generation to generation. Not only do they paint their houses in a unique style, but they also use their homes as studio spaces. At home, they create wearable beadwork like headgear, bracelets, and necklaces.

Nature's Creatures-Drawing Bugs-First Grade

Have you ever heard someone say,
"Stop and smell the roses?"

It means slow down. and notice the little things.

When you observe, you take time to pay careful attention to the world around you

Artists get inspiration from things they observe in the world.
Artists learn see detail by practicing drawing from observation.

Drawing from observation:
  • It can be an animal, a person, a landscape , or a still life.
  • Observational drawing  is drawing what you see in front of you as realistically, and as true to life as possible.
  • When we look at an object that we are going to draw look carefully, noticing shapes, light, shadow, colors, textures and details.

Imagination

  2. DRAW THE INSECT MODEL IN DETAIL ON THE OTHER SIDE OF YOUR PAPER.

    QUESTIONS:
DO YOU FEEL MOST COMFORTABLE DRAWING FROM YOUR IMAGINATION OR FROM OBSERVATION? EXPLAIN WHY.
WHEN DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD DRAW FROM IMAGINATION AND OBSERVATION? GIVE AN EXAMPLE.

 What is an Art Show?

What is an art show?

What things do artists do to get ready for an art show?

They make art, select which artwork to show, find a location, they promote their show (tell people about it) and they talk about their art.

Curating is the act of selecting, organizing, and presenting objects for display.

  • Select a piece of art that you have worked on 2 or more art classes.

  • You work should be a piece that you are proud of creating.

  • Your art should be complete and be your personal best work.

We will organize our work by class, with each student having a special place to display their work (by their name).

We will prepare it for display in a later lesson on framing and our artist statement.
