Create a piece of art beginning with 

one image from a magazine.

Use your imagination

Use humor

Use a sharpie

Directions:
1. Select an image from a magazine.
2. Cut out carefully.
3. Glue image to white paper.
4. Draw around the image using a sharpie. Have fun!

Develop Craft-Hot Glue Gun

One of the most exciting tools in our art studio is the 
HOT GLUE GUN

Many of you have already used it, many of you may want to try it out.  Some of you don't want to use it at all and that's fine too!

Some things to remember:

1.  Never try to take a glue stick out of the glue gun.  If your glue gun is running out, you just put another glue stick in the hole.

2.  Keep fingers away from the metal tip.  That is the hottest part.

3.  Make sure you are using TABS to glue cardboard together.  Do not glue cardboard to cardboard.  It is not very strong and it wastes a lot of glue.

Making a Mini Sketchbook--Extra Art

A sketchbook is a book or pad with blank pages for an artist to draw and write his or her images and ideas.

A sketchbook can be a special place for an artist. It’s like a playground—a place where they can try out new techniques, imagery, and generate new ideas and ways of working.

You can make a sketchbook with 8 pages from a single piece of paper!

So you want to be an ARCHITECT?

An Architect is a person who designs houses, office buildings, skyscrapers, landscapes, ships, and even entire cities.

Architects are usually are good at art and math, especially geometry.
They are creative.
They are problem solvers.

I Am An Architect

 This architect decided to build a new building on top of an old one, so there would be more places to people to live in a crowded city.

 What do you think inspired this architect?  What do you think this building is used for?

This is a lucky person home.  Do you see how the architect Frank Lloyd Wright used the waterfall as part of the design?  Do you notice how the bricks he choose for the house are similar to the rocks in the landscape?

Before you start your design, think about these questions:

1.  Who will your building be for?  A family?  An artist?  A king?

2.  What is your building used for?  A home?  A school?  An animal hospital?

Margaret Wertheim

The Reef Project a crocheted coral reef created by Margaret Wertheim, and her twin sister, Christina. The project combines mathematical ideas, marine biology, a feminine handicraft and community involvement.  Over 7,000 people worldwide have participated in the project. The Reef Project responds to and addresses the environmental concerns of global warming and the pollution and destruction of our ocean habitats.

Courtney Mattison
Courtney Mattison is a California born artist and ocean advocate working to inspire others to conserve our marine habitats. She creates clay forms, inspired by the beauty of ocean ecosystems—primarily coral reefs—and the human-caused threats they face.

Create a Relief Sculpture - Extra Art

Relief sculpture is kind of sculpture in which the sculpted elements remain attached to a solid background of the same material.

The image stands out from a flat background, like the faces and designs on coins.

Low Relief or Bas-Relief Sculpture stands out only a little from the background. 

High relief sculpture stands out a lot from the background, while still remaining attached.
