Greeting/Introduction:
Welcome to art class! We are going to have an exciting year together in art, full of discovery
and art making. We will draw, collage, paint sculpt and stitch. We are going to continue to learn what it means to be an artist and how to work like an artist.
This year is our fifth year having choice art at our school. If you are a first grader it is new. The room is arranged into studio centers. You can create different kinds of art in each studio.

Do you want to become a better artist? Just like improving at playing an instrument or a sport it requires time and practice improving your artistic skills such as drawing requires time and practice as well.
Let's look at some examples of how people have improved over time.

20 minutes before the end of class remind students that there is 5 minutes left to work.
15 minutes before the end of class, time to stop.
Clean up expectations:
I will always play the clean up anthem at clean up time.
Clean up is silent.
Everyone should finish cleaning up their studio space before the end of the song.
(I will select 2 monitors to write down names of anyone talking, or not cleaning up)

Dismiss one table at a time to WALK to the carpet QUIETLY
At the end of some classes we meet at the carpet to discuss what we did during studio time.

In school we are respectful by raising our hands when we have something to say.
