Draw things that are far smaller and higher up on the page.

What appears far away in this picture.

In art, we call the objects that appear the closest, the foreground.

Objects that are medium-sized and a little higher on the page are called the middle ground.

Objects that you want to appear far away are drawn the smallest and highest on the page.

 The line where the ground and sky appear to meet is called the horizon line.

Welcome to the Sculpture Studio!

Today we are learning about Sculpture, Shape and Form. 

We will use paper to create sculptures that stand.

In the sculpture studio, we will be creating forms from paper, and practicing two kinds of attachments.

Paper Cylinder-Flange
Wall- Fold and Cut & Tabs
Rectangular Prism

1st grade- Make a Cylinder, Flange a cylinder, Fold and cut paper to make it stand

2nd and 3rd grade-Make a Cylinder, Flange a cylinder, Tab a wall, Rectangular Prism

Welcome Back 2019-20 Artists Improve with Time and Practice

Greeting/Introduction:

Welcome to art class! We are going to have an exciting year together in art, full of discovery

and art making. We will draw, collage, paint sculpt and stitch. We are going to continue to learn what it means to be an artist and how to work like an artist.

This year is our fifth year having choice art at our school. If you are a first grader it is new. The room is arranged into studio centers. You can create different kinds of art in each studio.

What do artists do?

You are the artist.

The art room is your studio.

Today we are going to talk about how you are going to become a better artist.

Artists improve with Practice!
Do you want to become a better artist? Just like improving at playing an instrument or a sport it requires time and practice improving your artistic skills such as drawing requires time and practice as well.

Let's look at some examples of how people have improved over time.

Example of growth during one school year

Find a place to work where you are comfortable, there are already drawing supplies on your

tables that you can choose from.  
1st 10 minutes
2nd 15 minutes
3rd whole work time

20 minutes before the end of class remind students that there is 5 minutes left to work.

15 minutes before the end of class, time to stop.

Clean up expectations:

I will always play the clean up anthem at clean up time.

Clean up is silent.

Everyone should finish cleaning up their studio space before the end of the song.

(I will select 2 monitors to write down names of anyone talking, or not cleaning up)

Today, during clean up, you will be responsible

Dismiss one table at a time to WALK to the carpet QUIETLY

At the end of some classes we meet at the carpet to discuss what we did during studio time.

This is our meeting spot and our thinking spot.

In school we are respectful by raising our hands when we have something to say.
