The Drawing Studio

Let's Draw!

This week we are experimenting with drawing materials. We will show what we know in our Studio Practice book. This practice will prepare us for our work in the drawing studio!

Pencil

With a pencil...

You can create light and dark values.

Value is the lightness or darkness of a color.

You can create light and dark values by:
  • changing how hard you press on your pencil.(1st & 2nd)
  •  choosing different pencils.(3rd)
Blending and Layering:
Making new colors in the drawing Studio

Chalk Pastel

You can make new colors by blending chalk pastels.

You can use a tissue, or finger to soften and blend and soften your drawing strokes.

  • How would blending be useful in your artwork?
  • How can you control your blending?
You can layer colored pencil or crayon by coloring one color over another lightly.

Colored Pencil

  • Can you see where the colors overlap in layers to create new colors?
  • Why do you think it is important to color lightly when layering?

Oil Pastel (grade 1 )

  • How does oil pastel feel when you are drawing compared to crayon ?
  • Why would you lay down light colors before dark?

When we sketch, why do we draw lightly?
